Ferrovial, through its Airports division, has appointed Jean-Pierre Tabet as the Asset Management Director in the North America region. Mr. Tabet, who has more than 25 years of aviation industry leadership experience, joins Ferrovial to focus on Ferrovial’s aviation portfolio and drive value creation in this market. He will have near-term responsibility for operations, planning, and stakeholder engagement for the transformative New Terminal One (NTO) project at John F. Kennedy International Airport, for which Ferrovial has served as the lead consortium investor since 2022. The United States Mint (Mint) began shipping the first coin in the 2023 American Women Quarters (AWQ) Program. The Mint facilities at Philadelphia and Denver manufacture these circulating quarters honoring Bessie Coleman. Bessie Coleman was a pilot, advocate, and pioneer who flew to great heights as the first African American and first Native American woman pilot and the first African American to earn an international pilot’s license. AlphaStruxure, a leader in Energy as a Service (EaaS) solutions, announced an agreement to design, construct, and operate integrated microgrid infrastructure at the New Terminal One (NTO) at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The microgrid will provide NTO with sustainable, resilient, locally generated, and cost-predictable energy. It will deliver immediate greenhouse gas emission reductions of 38 percent over grid-sourced energy and lead to cleaner air for the surrounding communities by eliminating the emission of criteria pollutants. The Air France-KLM Group has placed a firm order for four A350Fs, the brand new Airbus widebody freighter, to be operated by Martinair Holland N.V., a Dutch cargo airline headquartered and based in Amsterdam Schiphol airport and part of KLM Group. HMSHost has introduced new PHA biodegradable straws from BIOLO in numerous dining venues at U.S. airports. The partnership with BIOLO, which was secured through HMSHost’s packaging partner Baer & Associates, Inc., marks a significant milestone in HMSHost’s promise to reduce the use of single-use plastic guest packaging in its North American airport operations. United, the only major U.S. airline to own a flight school, is celebrating the graduation of United Aviate Academy’s inaugural class of pilots, an important step towards training the next generation of talented, qualified, and motivated aviators. Alaska Airlines announced the completion of its transition to paper cups for inflight beverages, eliminating more than 55 million plastic cups annually and replacing them with a more planet-friendly alternative. The change to paper cups makes Alaska Airlines the first U.S. airline to eliminate plastic cups.
