Welcome to the January 2023 issue of the Metropolitan Airport News. I hope you have enjoyed the holiday season and are ready for all the New Year has to offer. It is certainly a time for reflection and renewal while we get ready to hit the ground running into 2023. This month’s feature we bring to you is about something old being new again. eVTOL vehicles, while conceptually envisioned and even some brought into reality over the years, are now on the verge of practical implementation in modern cities with zero carbon footprint. Think drones for passengers, or if you…
Welcome to the December issue of the Metropolitan Airport News. We bring a feature focused on Gerrard Bushell from the New Terminal One in this issue. Dr. Bushell is inspirational and ready to deliver a world-class terminal to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). As you learn more about him, you will agree that his entire career has prepared him to be in this position at this time. We are lucky to have him in this vital leadership position at JFK. The end of the year is quickly approaching, and I think it’s a great time to take a moment…
Welcome to the November issue of the Metropolitan Airport News. By this time, you’re all bustling with work and getting ready for the upcoming holiday season that starts in a few weeks with increased activity at the airports. The traveling public will be taking those long awaiting trips to be with the family that may have been put off for a while now, and the cargo sector is ready to move goods worldwide. All the while, our airports are alive with movements; construction is here and will be for the foreseeable future. It’s stressful, so be sure to plan your…
Welcome to the October issue of the Metropolitan Airport News. I hope all the kids got back to school OK and that you are all adjusting to the increased traffic around the airports! It is obvious that people are back on the move, both on the road and in the air. While I wish we could have held onto summer a little longer, there is something very comforting about the cool mornings of the season and the beautiful changes that are all around. This month we bring a feature focused on the aviation and maritime industries coming together to…
Welcome to the September issue of the Metropolitan Airport News. This month’s issue brings us to Long Island and the Bayport Aerodrome; what an incredible place smack in the middle of a residential neighborhood! But it didn’t start that way, the airfield came first, and then the neighborhood came after. The history of Long Island’s aviation roots is impressive. Thanks to the forethought of local aviators, the Bayport Aerodrome continues to tell the story of where we came from regarding our industry, which is still a substantial economic engine in the New York metropolitan area. Welcome to the August issue of the Metropolitan Airport News. Those who call the aviation industry their career, passion, and community know that aviation isn’t just flying passengers around to their desired destination; aviation is much more than that. We often speak in terms of the airports, airlines, supporting businesses, and organizations as a giant economic engine in New York and New Jersey and endless employment opportunities. This month we are bringing you an introduction to Orbis International and the Flying Eye hospital. This organization has centered its entire mission on offering eye surgery to underserved populations and training doctors worldwide.…
Welcome to the July issue of the Metropolitan Airport News. Over our years at the airport, we have met many people who have served our country and we have known the families of our dedicated Service Members. It’s a sacrifice that we appreciate every day. While we highlight our amazing military throughout the year, it is in our July issue that we partner with our advertisers to make a difference. Through our Charitable Giving Campaigns, we have donated over $45,000 to local organizations serving our Active Military, Veterans, and students of the Aviation Industry. This year we are honoring Big…
Welcome to the June issue of the Metropolitan Airport News. We interviewed aviation icon David Neeleman, founder, and chief executive officer of Breeze Airways, in this issue. Breeze Airways is developing new routes and providing excellent options for travelers all across the country, including Long Island and Westchester county. As we go around the airport this month, we see that passengers are back, and companies are hiring. The airport redevelopment projects are happening at JFK and EWR; LGA Delta opened their new terminal, and in-person events and meetings are once again being held around the airports. It’s nice to get…
Welcome to the May issue of the Metropolitan Airport News. Spring is definitely in the air as people come together again as a sign of resilience and renewal. The JFK Rotary Club’s Run the Runway 5K took place in late April after taking a two-year break from large in-person gatherings. By the success of the event, I would say that people are ready to get back out there and enjoy the airport and one another. It was a great way to wrap up April’s National Volunteer Months activities. This month’s issue features Charles Taylor and his legacy. Many won’t know…
The 2022 JFK Run the Runway 5K was once again held live after a two-year hiatus. The JFK Rotary Club and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) were delighted to welcome runners, walkers, aviation enthusiasts, colleagues, friends, and family to experience an iconic moment out on the runway at JFK International Airport. Every year since 1972, a worthy organization has benefitted from the proceeds; this year, the beneficiary is General Needs LTD. They provide assistance to local homeless Veterans as they transition back to work and into homes. The remainder of the proceeds allows the JFK…
