An arriving passenger at John F. Kennedy International Airport did not enjoy a ‘Happy Hour’ as U. S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized her illegal cocktail. On April 8, Ms. Stefisha Miller, a Jamaican citizen, arrived on a flight from Kingston, Jamaica. CBP officers inspected a duty-free box she was carrying that contained two Bailey’s bottles with a plastic bag inside of it. CBP officers escorted Ms. Miller to a private search room where the bottles were examined revealing a bag of white powder that tested positive for cocaine. Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, has successfully transported some of the world’s best show jumping horses from Mexico City to Miami for the Longines Global Champions Tour. The air cargo carrier will later be transporting these horses from Miami to Liege and from there to Shanghai back to Liege. Emirates SkyCargo will be operating dedicated freighter flights over the course of the month to transport the equine champions and their grooms. A Pennsylvania man was arrested at Newark Liberty International Airport on Saturday March 24 after a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officer detected a .38 special handgun in his carry-on bag. The gun was loaded with five hollow-point bullets, which are designed to expand when they enter the target to cause significant damage to body tissue, thus resulting more harm than other bullets. This marks the seventh gun that TSA officers have caught at the airport so far this calendar year and was the second gun caught by TSA officers at the airport within a five-day span. On March 17, Mr. Hugh Hall, a Jamaica citizen and crew member of Fly Jamaica Airways, arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport from Montego Bay, Jamaica and presented himself for inspection. Mr. Hugh was escorted to a private search room where CBP officers discovered four packages taped to his legs, all of which contained a white powder that tested positive for cocaine. Mr. Hall was arrested for the importation of a controlled substance and was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. A man was arrested at Newark Liberty International Airport this morning (March 19) after a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officer detected a handgun frame concealed inside a sneaker box at a checkpoint in Terminal A. Firearm parts are not allowed past checkpoints because if several passengers each show up with a piece of a firearm, they could possibly assemble the components into a functioning weapon. As a reminder, individuals who bring weapons to a checkpoint are subject to federal civil penalties of up to $13,000. A typical first offense for carrying a handgun into a checkpoint is $3,900.
